Graduates of the University of Adelaide, who are Australian Citizens, Permanent Residents or NZ Citizens and are enrolled within the University as a full time higher degree research candidate in medicine, law, commerce, economics or architecture, and are in receipt of a major scholarship, shall be eligible to apply.

Where an eligible applicant is the lineal descendant of an Australian soldier or sailor who died or was blinded or was totally and permanently incapacitated as a result of his service in World War I, preference shall be given to that candidate.

One supplementary scholarship shall be awarded each year, via the Major Round scholarships process.

Value: $10,000 per annum (tax free) for up to three years.

Closing Date: 31 October. The awards are allocated as part of the Major Round of applications.

The China Scholarship Council (CSC) and The University of Adelaide (UA) are jointly offering postgraduate research scholarships to students from the People's Republic of China who intend to undertake a postgraduate research degree at the University of Adelaide. Up to 50 scholarships will be available for students commencing in semester 2, 2010.
UA will provide an Adelaide University China Fee Scholarship to each student selected under this program. This Scholarship will pay the full tuition fee. CSC will provide each student selected under this program with a living allowance as prescribed from time to time by the Chinese Government for the term of the Scholarship, a return airfare to Australia by the most economical route, visa application fees, and the cost of the Australian Government approved Overseas Student Health Cover. Fares for dependants and removal expenses will not be provided.
Only candidates undertaking a Doctor of Philosophy program are eligible. If the selected Chinese students successfully complete the requirements of the program, they will be conferred with a Doctor of Philosophy degree by the University of Adelaide.
Scholarships under this program will be for up to four years, subject to satisfactory academic progress, An extension beyond three and a half years requires the approval of both CSC and the University.
On occasions the University of Adelaide may accept students into joint degree programs with Chinese University partner institutions whereby students spend part of their time at each of the two universities. Students interested in these arrangements should, prior to application, check with the Adelaide Graduate Centre to see if such an arrangement exists. In the event that such an agreement does exist students will be directed to a special application form as they should NOT use the standard China Scholarship Council-University of Adelaide application form.

Adelaide University China Fee Scholarships will only be available to those applicants who:

• Are citizens and permanent residents of the People's Republic of China at the time of application;
• Are less than 35 years old at the time of application (this is a CSC eligibility requirement);
• Are a university student completing a master's degree, or enrolled as a first year PhD student, or new graduates from their university at the time of application;
• Are not currently working or studying abroad (outside the People's Republic of China);
• Agree to return to China upon completion of their studies and/or research;
• Hold an unconditional offer of enrolment at the University of Adelaide, which is subject to the applicant also being successful in applying for a CSC award. They must therefore fulfil the relevant academic entry requirements set by the University of Adelaide for all international scholarship holders, including a high level of English language proficiency;
• English is the language of instruction at the University of Adelaide and proficiency in speaking, listening to, reading and writing English is essential. The IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is the preferred English language proficiency. • The Scholarships will give priority to graduates of the Chinese universities listed as "985 Project (pdf 9kB)" Universities.

Up to 15 scholarships may be available in 2010 to outstanding international students from any country undertaking postgraduate research in any academic discipline. Benefits are payment of full tuition fees for the normal duration of the program. The sole selection criteria for the Adelaide Fee Scholarships International (AFSI) will be academic merit. Unlike the IPRS, the AFSI applicants do not need to be applying to an area of research strength in the University. The Research Priority Areas of the University will be taken into consideration when awarding these scholarships.

Conditions AFSI Scholarships

• AFSI Scholarships will be awarded strictly on academic merit. Extra-curricular achievements will not be considered.
• Citizens and Permanent Residents of Australia, and citizens of New Zealand are ineligible.
• Those undertaking research via remote candidature are ineligible.
• Candidates who have applied for Australian permanent resident status are ineligible.
• International applicants are not eligible for an AFSI if they have already commenced the degree for which they are seeking an award, unless  they can establish that they were unable to apply for an AFSI in the previous calendar year.
• International applicants who have not provided evidence of their meeting English language proficiency requirements by the closing date are not eligible for an AFSI.
• Candidates are required to enrol in the University of Adelaide as 'international students' and must maintain 'international student' status for the duration of their enrolment in the University.
• Scholarships are available for the normal duration of the program, subject to satisfactory progress. For students enrolled in a PhD, extensions beyond three years and six months require the approval of the Graduate Scholarships Committee and would only be approved in exceptional circumstances.
• Scholarships holders must commence study at The University of Adelaide in Semester 1 or Semester 2, 2010. No AFSI may be commenced after 30 September.
• Scholarship winners will not be permitted to defer commencement until 2011.
• Applicants who applied in previous international scholarship rounds are not eligible to apply again.

There is no separate application process for Adelaide Fee Scholarships International (AFSI). An application for admission to the University in 2010 will constitute an application for a scholarship in this instance
