China Scholarship Council - University of Adelaide Joint Postgraduate Scholarships Program
The China Scholarship Council (CSC) and The University of Adelaide (UA) are jointly offering postgraduate research scholarships to students from the People's Republic of China who intend to undertake a postgraduate research degree at the University of Adelaide. Up to 50 scholarships will be available for students commencing in semester 2, 2010.
UA will provide an Adelaide University China Fee Scholarship to each student selected under this program. This Scholarship will pay the full tuition fee. CSC will provide each student selected under this program with a living allowance as prescribed from time to time by the Chinese Government for the term of the Scholarship, a return airfare to Australia by the most economical route, visa application fees, and the cost of the Australian Government approved Overseas Student Health Cover. Fares for dependants and removal expenses will not be provided.
Only candidates undertaking a Doctor of Philosophy program are eligible. If the selected Chinese students successfully complete the requirements of the program, they will be conferred with a Doctor of Philosophy degree by the University of Adelaide.
Scholarships under this program will be for up to four years, subject to satisfactory academic progress, An extension beyond three and a half years requires the approval of both CSC and the University.
On occasions the University of Adelaide may accept students into joint degree programs with Chinese University partner institutions whereby students spend part of their time at each of the two universities. Students interested in these arrangements should, prior to application, check with the Adelaide Graduate Centre to see if such an arrangement exists. In the event that such an agreement does exist students will be directed to a special application form as they should NOT use the standard China Scholarship Council-University of Adelaide application form.

Applications are invited from students normally resident in the United Kingdom who wish to undertake a higher degree at an Australian university for a period of up to three years. Adelaide Fee Scholarships International (AFSI)
Up to 15 scholarships may be available in 2010 to outstanding international students from any country undertaking postgraduate research in any academic discipline. Benefits are payment of full tuition fees for the normal duration of the program. The sole selection criteria for the Adelaide Fee Scholarships International (AFSI) will be academic merit. Unlike the IPRS, the AFSI applicants do not need to be applying to an area of research strength in the University. The Research Priority Areas of the University will be taken into consideration when awarding these scholarships.
Conditions AFSI Scholarships
There is no separate application process for Adelaide Fee Scholarships International (AFSI). An application for admission to the University in 2010 will constitute an application for a scholarship in this instance

International Postgraduate Research Scholarships (IPRS)
The International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (IPRS) scheme is funded by the Commonwealth Government through the Department of Education, Employment & Workplace Relations (DEEWR). Its purpose is to attract high quality overseas postgraduate students to areas of research strength in higher education institutions to support Australia's research effort. Approximately 13 scholarships may be available in 2010 for international students from any country undertaking postgraduate research in areas of University research strengths.
The IPRS provides:
- Course tuition fees for two years for a Masters degree by Research and three years for a Doctoral research degree (an extension is possible for doctoral programs only); and
- Health insurance cover for students.
- All successful IPRS applicants will also receive an Adelaide Scholarships International (ASI) place which provides an annual living allowance of approximately $20,427 (2009 value) for the normal duration of the program.
Conditions
- IPRS Scholarships will be awarded on academic merit and to applicants applying in areas of research strength. Extra-curricular achievements will not be considered.
- Citizens and Permanent Residents of Australia, and citizens of New Zealand are ineligible.
- Those undertaking research via remote candidature are ineligible.
- Candidates who have applied for Australian permanent resident status are ineligible to apply.
- International applicants are not eligible for an IPRS if they have already commenced the degree for which they are seeking an award, unless they can establish that they were unable to apply for an IPRS in the previous calendar year.
- International applicants who have not provided evidence of their meeting English language proficiency requirements by the closing date are not eligible for an IPRS.
- Candidates are required to enrol in the University of Adelaide as 'international students' and must maintain 'international student' status for the duration of their enrolment in the University.
- Scholarships are available for the normal duration of the program, subject to satisfactory progress. For students enrolled in a PhD, extensions beyond three years and six months require the approval of the Graduate Scholarships Committee and would only be approved in exceptional circumstances.
- Scholarships holders must commence study at The University of Adelaide in Semester 1 or Semester 2, 2010. No IPRS may be commenced after 30 September.
- Scholarship winners will not be permitted to defer commencement until 2011.
- Applicants who applied in previous international scholarship rounds are not eligible to apply again.

Hong Kong: Master Scholarship and International Exchange Programmes in Urban Planning
The M.Sc. in Urban Planning is an international postgraduate programme that provides a comprehensive professional training in the theory, method and practice of urban and regional planning. A focus on the planning and management of sustainable cities and regions is an important distinguishing feature of the programme and this focus is reinforced by the research carried out in the Centre itself.
Students from a number of Asian countries are eligible to apply for Asian Development Bank Scholarships which provide financial support covering tuition fees and living expenses. Students in Hong Kong are not eligible for ADB scholarship.
The M.Sc. (Urban Planning) programme has an exchange agreement with School of Environmental Planning in Griffith University, Australia since 1997. We are now finalising exchange agreements with the Bartlett School of Planning in University College London, the School of Architecture in Tsinghua University and College of Architecture and Urban Planning in Tongji University. Admitted students will have the opportunity to study in these universities for a period of one month to one semester once the agreements are signed and endorsed.
The admission requirements for the M.Sc. (Urban Planning) Programme are a Bachelor`s degree with honours from the University of Hong Kong; or, an equivalent qualification from another university or comparable institution. A qualifying examination may be set for selected applicants.
Applicants who do not meet the above admission requirements may in exceptional circumstances be permitted to register if they demonstrate preparation for studies at this level and satisfy the examiners in a qualifying examination.
All Asian Development Bank Scholarship applicants and applicants who do not hold a degree from an institution using English as the language of instruction and/or language of examination are required to obtain a score of 550 or above in the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or a minimum overall band of 6 with no subtest lower than 5.5 in their International English Language Testing System (IELTS).

One Ryerson Post Doctoral Fellowship (RPDF) is immediately available from October 2009 in Spacecraft Dynamics and Control for three years (i.e. 36 months) renewable annually. The annual salary is $41,000 plus benefits (approximate total value of award $50,000). The aim of this RPDF program is to attract outstanding post-doctoral fellows who will enhance Ryerson’s Scholarly, Research and Creative (SRC) productivity.

The Netherlands: PhD Studentship at Department of Microbial Physiology, University of Groningen
This project will be a unique collaboration between the Microbial Physiology department and the Groningen Bioinformatics Centre
using a newly acquired state-of-art ultra-high resolution LTQ-Orbitrap mass spectrometer in the Medical Biomics Facility to determine the metabolome of Streptomyces coelicolor.
Project objectives
Comprehensively explore the cellular and secreted metabolome of Streptomyces species to identify novel antibiotic biosynthesis
pathways, using ultra-high resolution Orbitrap mass spectrometry Understand the fundamental changes of the metabolome during the switch from primary to secondary metabolism, i.e. when antibiotics are produced, in S. coelicolor, our model organism.
Requirements
Candidates should have training in biochemistry, microbiology, and molecular biology. Experience in bioinformatics, and handling Streptomyces, would be a plus.

department is one of the leading institutes of Microbiology in Europe. About the MyCare Project
The MyCare project is a joint initiative of the Computer Science Department of the University of Groningen and of the Department of Psychiatry of the Groningen University Medical Hospital. MyCare aims at building information technology tools to support patients with schizophrenia for personal recovery and risk assessment. The tools are tested with actual patients in a controlled environment. This exciting PhD project combines the creation of innovative software tools with actual medical field work.
The position is financed in the context of the Dutch ZonMW program for medical innovation. Another PhD student will be hired to work on the MyCare project in the field of Psychiatry.
The position is open in the Distributed Systems unit lead by Prof. Marco Aiello in close collaboration with the Intelligent Systems unit lead by Prof. Nicolai Petkov .
Required profile
-You should have a M.Sc. or equivalent in computer science or a related discipline
